For the 12th time this year, Nigeria’s power grid has collapsed, plunging the nation into another round of electricity outages.
Data from the Independent System Operator (ISO), a division of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), revealed that by 2:00 PM, no electricity was being generated from any power plants connected to the grid. This is a sharp drop from the 3,087 megawatts recorded at 1:00 PM.
Disco Confirms Outage
In a public statement, the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (Jos Disco) addressed the situation, explaining:
“The current outage being experienced within our franchise states is due to the loss of power supply from the national grid.
“This occurred at approximately 1:33 PM today, Wednesday, 11th December 2024, resulting in power disruptions across all our feeders.”
The Disco reassured its customers that efforts are underway to restore power as soon as the grid becomes stable. They also expressed gratitude for the patience and understanding of their customers during the ongoing challenges. As the nation faces yet another grid failure, questions about the resilience of the power infrastructure continue to grow, highlighting the urgent need for long-term solutions to Nigeria’s energy crisis.
