A married police chief faces being sacked over an alleged affair with an officer nearly 20 years his junior after being charged with gross misconduct.An investigation was launched into Daniel Greenwood’s relationship with 24-year-old PC Caitlin Howarth in 2021 and he was suspended. The inquiry has now ended and Greenwood, 41, who is a Chief Superintendent, faces being fired by West Yorkshire Police at a misconduct hearing scheduled for later this year.

Howarth was also suspended and she allegedly did not inform West Yorkshire Police about her links with a man who has been jailed for supplying drugs, The Sun reported.

Howarth previously posted photos of herself on social media including to her Instagram account which had more than 10,000 followers.She appeared in court on April 2 over her connection to the man and was charged at York Crown Court with public misconduct in a public office. The 24-year-old’s trial is scheduled to start in February.A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police told The Sun: ‘Proceedings under the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2020 have been served on the officer.’The matter is ongoing and the officer remains suspended from duty.’
